This Month's Feature

Andrew Roach and Josephine Mhende at Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia.

Background

ANDY: One experience that stands out is our first time implementing the Mindfulness Ambassador Program with a group of young parents in a low income area in Atlanta. … The group of parents that were participating really resonated with the practices and from the very fist session, they were fully engaged. Over the course of eight weeks, I was amazed at the sense of comnunity and openness that we were able to achieve. It was a really rewarding experience.

JOSEPHINE: One thing that I can recall that always sticks with me was from my Facilitator Training, lead by Leah Gardiner.

What that means and what that looks like in a focus group setting or session is that for people who have never done mindfulness, it’s okay. What you’re doing, how you’re breathing, how you’re meditating is perfect and is unique to yourself.

Practice does not make perfect. Practice is perfect.

What that means and what that looks like in a focus group setting or session is that for people who have never done mindfulness, it’s okay. What you’re doing, how you’re breathing, how you’re meditating is perfect and is unique to yourself.
